Senior Safety Manager
Role Overview
Provide Senior Project Level Safety leadership to advance our Construction Client’s Safety Programs. The primary objective is to cultivate an incident- and injury-free (IIF) workplace, initially for a dedicated project located in Queens, NY.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
• Cultivate an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) safety culture through proactive coaching, mentoring, and engagement with staff and trades.
• Lead the Project Safety Committee and foster local professional safety organization participation.
• Ensure project safety staffing requirements are fully met (including subcontractor DSR oversight for teams over 25).
Strategy & Compliance
• Work closely with the Vice President of Safety to develop strategic safety objectives, identify training needs, establish project safety protocols, and maintain policies that ensure strict compliance with client, local, state, and federal laws.
• Serve as the principal technical advisor on safety matters and assist in coordination with regulatory inspections.
• Preview proposals, specifications, and bidding documents to ensure alignment with project safety expectations.
• Utilize leading indicators and innovative solutions to prevent incidents before they occur.
• Conduct regular jobsite inspections via Safety Stratus to monitor high-risk activities and ensure adherence to proper controls.
• Plan and provide comprehensive training and technical support services to project teams, covering crane/rigging drawings, precast concrete, post-tensioning, site utility connections, MTA coordination, and site safety plans.
• Provide setup, training, and ongoing assistance with Safety Stratus, and oversee the Drug and Alcohol testing program as the designated employer representative.
Communication & Incident Management
• Act as the lead safety interface between the client, project teams, and external stakeholders.
• Lead and organize safety Stand-downs, weekly safety meetings, and serious incident reviews with subcontractors, company staff, and clients.
• Lead thorough incident investigations utilizing Root Cause Analysis (RCA) techniques for injuries, near misses, and incidents.
• Documentation: Manage, track, and retain comprehensive project incident and injury logs for both the company and subcontractors. Track the completion of action items generated via site cameras, field observations, or reports.
Experience & Field Expertise
• Minimum of 15 years of construction safety experience.
• At least 5 years of dedicated experience specifically in New York City high-rise construction.
• Operational Knowledge: Proven experience overseeing post-tension and precast concrete operations.
• Strong experience handling crisis management and conducting root cause analysis.
Licenses & Regulatory Certifications
• NYC DOB Site Safety Supervisor (62 hours).
• NYC DOB Site Safety Manager (SSM) license.
• FDNY Certificate of Fitness (C of F) Construction Site Fire Safety Manager (S-56).
• Working knowledge of all applicable regulations from OSHA, NYC DOB, and DEP.
• Strategic thinking and leadership skills.
• Ability to build trust and confidence with both management and field personnel.
Preferred Qualifications
• Professional Certifications CSP, ASP, CHST, are highly preferred.
Salary range: $200,000 - $225,000
